Our Statewide Student Day of Poetry has been broke up into five regional events for 2015. You are now perusing the BOSTON event!

On Tuesday, December 15, Mass Poetry’s Student Day of Poetry is taking over UMass Boston! SDOP features a morning poetry sampler, writing-generative workshops, performances, readings, and a student open mic. We’ve got something for everyone, from the student who isn’t even sure they like poetry to the senior leading the after-school poetry club.

Writing From Your Stomach

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

In this generative workshop, students will learn the difference between writing from their heads--writing that is typically overwrought, "trying too hard," etc.--writing from their hearts--that mushy, abstract writing full of words like "love," "true," "soul," what have you--and writing from their stomachs, where they can train their inner bologna detector by crafting poems that utilize concrete details, objects, character, and sound.
